South West Iceland trip - Golden Circle

A few pictures from a small trip in South-West Iceland.

I should also add that today is the official first day of summer in Iceland and is celebrated as a public holiday. On this day people try to get outside as much as possible and special events are held around the country including cheap trips, free entry to attractions and discounts at some restaurants and cafes.

The first day of summer occurs on the third Thursday in April and comes from the old Viking calendar when there were only two seasons: the cold, dark season and the warm, light one. Tradion has it that if the two seasons freeze together (i.e. if there was a frost last night) then a good summer is in store! Well, it might well be the case as it just started snowing tonight in Skagastrond.
