Saint Peter's seminary

Saint Peter's seminary, close to Cardross, near Glasgow, was commissioned by the Archbishop of Glasgow in 1958 and completed in 1966. It served as a teaching college for the catholic church before being closed in 1980. It has been abandonned since.

The modernist and brutalist architecture (all the more interesting for a church commission!) was designed by Isi Metzstein and Andy McMillan, who ran Gillespie, Kidd and Coia. It is one of only 42 buildings in Scotland to be listed at Category A, the highest level of protection for a building of "special architectural or historic interest".

Below is an extract of the original film footage from Space and Light (1972, dir. Murray Grigor) combined with new footage of the building in its now derelict state.
